GutterCare is an exterior grade foam,
not a sponge.
Understand that there are huge differences in foam products that are being offered for gutter protection. GutterCare is a high tech open celled (so as not to hold water like a sponge) exterior grade, polyether foam constructed to rigid standards. Two important criteria's for a foam gutter protection are porosity (PPI) and stiffness (ILD). Insuring the foam is porous enough to allow vast amounts of water to pass through it and stiff enough to endure the weight of ice and snow. Since the foam is an open celled construction, it will not hold water. If it doesn't hold water, it will not freeze into a block of ice and expand. In fact, since it's black it absorbs the heat when the sun comes out and it's one of the first things to melt so your gutters will keep flowing.
